đŸ“¢ Support Alison Field Assessment of Needs Petition 2183/2025 in the European Parliament
On May 6th, Alison Field is bringing the voices of families failed by Ireland’s Assessment of Need system to the European Parliament. This is a moment to show your solidarity. Stand with Alison. Stand with these families. Add your name to demand accountability, urgency, and the basic right of every child to the care they deserve.
Under the Disability Act 2005, every child in Ireland is entitled to an Assessment of Need within six months of application. This assessment is the gateway to therapies, educational support, and healthcare. Today, over 16,000 children are waiting, with an average wait of nearly 25 months, four times the legal limit. Some families have been told to wait up to six years. These are children losing the most critical years of their development while the State does nothing.
These delays constitute a direct breach of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.
We are calling on the Committee on Petitions to direct the European Commission to investigate Ireland's failure as a violation of EU law, recommend that Ireland access EU technical assistance and funding to fix this broken system, and monitor Ireland's compliance. You can also support Alison's petition directly on the official European Parliament petitions portal here. Every signature tells the European Parliament that this national scandal cannot continue.
